From November 11, 2018 to April 7, 2019, the exhibition 'SBK visits Verbeke Foundation' can be seen in the Verbeke Foundation museum in Kemzeke, Belgium, curated by director Geert Verbeke and curator Marie Verboven.
The Verbeke Foundation, founded by art collectors Geert and Carla Verbeke Lens, is a private art space in Kemzeke Belgium with an impressive collection of modern and contemporary works of art. With 12 hectares of nature reserve and 20,000 m2 of covered space, the Foundation is one of the largest private initiatives in Europe. The Verbeke Foundation strives to be a place where culture, nature and ecology are closely intertwined. Since the opening of the Verbeke Foundation in 2007, the collection has been continuously expanded with contemporary works of art. An exceptional collection of collages and assemblages, modern and contemporary art, forms the core of the collection. The exhibition shows a selection of special collages and assemblages from SBK's rich art collection. SBK has a special art collection, which was formed in 1955 by a collection of works of art by Amsterdam artists and which, through various acquisitions, has grown into a collection of national allure: a special cultural heritage. This collection now comprises more than 30,000 works of art, mostly unique pieces belonging to different art movements and periods within Dutch art history; from oil paintings and drawings to sculpture, photography and collages. MUSEUM PIECE AT HOME? BOOK A WORK FROM THE EXHIBITION IN ADVANCE The museum has purchased some of the exhibited artworks for its collection. What is unique is that the other works of art that can be seen in the exhibition after the exhibition has ended can be borrowed. A great opportunity to acquire a museum piece, a unique work from the SBK collection, selected by the Museum Verbeke Foundation. If you are interested in one of the artworks, send an email with the name of the artist to firstname.lastname@example.org The collaboration between the two art institutions, initiated by former SBK director John Loose, is logical. In line with the vision of the Foundation, the director and curator, together with Vera Schoffelen, artistic director of SBK and Marjoleyn van Dijk, curator and collection manager of SBK, have made a selection of one hundred and fifty special collages and assemblages from SBK's rich art collection. .
