SBK is an art library & gallery for individuals and companies. We want to interest a wide audience in contemporary art with our services. We have been doing this for over 65 years! We believe that art should not only belong in a museum but should be part of everyday life; at home, in the workplace and in public spaces.
Art gives color, art makes you see the world differently and art even makes you happy. And so we believe that everyone should be able to experience art. Without queuing for the museum, but just at home. Accessible and affordable. And yet of high quality.
We offer a stage for artists to present themselves to a wide audience. From artists who have already earned their spurs to young up and coming talent.
Stichting Beeldende Kunst (SBK) was founded in 1955 by artist Pieter Kooistra. He wanted to build a bridge between art or the artists and the public, in order to make art accessible to everyone.
With a cargo bike full of works of art by artist friends, he drove past the houses to spread art. More than 65 years after its foundation, the Stichting Beeldende Kunst still pursues the same goal, without subsidy.
Pieter Kooistra was a special man. On the one hand he was a versatile artist. In addition, he used his creativity for all kinds of ideas in the social and economic field. In this way he not only wanted to bring art within everyone’s reach, but also developed the idea for a world basic income: the UNO plan.
