We are proud to present the first exhibition in 2018 for Amsterdam-Noord with work by Esther Jiskoot.
The opening is Saturday, January 20 from 3 p.m. in the presence of the artist - you are most welcome! Esther Jiskoot was trained as a sculptor and also fits in that tradition. But everything shows that she was also previously educated in textiles and glass. She allows herself a lot of freedom in her choice of materials (blown glass, textiles, ceramics, metal, rubber) and all of this contributes to an idiosyncratic oeuvre. She uses these diverse materials with apparent ease, bringing them together in often organic, physical, intriguing images. Text: Sometimes it happens that an image makes many associations possible, without you being able to put your finger on it exactly. She also makes that possible with her work. It is reminiscent of nature, of body parts, of aliens, but also loving hugs or desperate attempts at contact. Esther Jiskoot's images are about the vulnerability of human existence. Not in a dramatic way, but often with a touch of humor and compassion. The special titles of her work arise from a broad interest in music, language, architecture, visual arts, history or the ordinary daily rhythm. Characteristics from this are fused together (into a neologism with a special sound.) The title Spaciosa for this exhibition was chosen by the artist himself. Jiskoot's work is about space and what space things take up. It also sounds a bit frivolous and optimistic and this fits perfectly with her use of color materials. www.estherjiskoot.com
