This exhibition is called 'Redemption Song', after a title of a painting by Doorson, named after one of Bob Marley's most famous songs.
In recent weeks there seems to be a turning point in the discussion about institutional racism in the Netherlands. A positive development that Galerie 23 naturally fully supports. Since our inception, we have focused on the promotion of non-Western art by organizing exhibitions with artists from Africa, Suriname and the Caribbean. In this way we give non-Western artists a stage to show their work, something that is unfortunately not yet possible everywhere within the art world in the Netherlands. To strengthen the Black Lives Matter movement, we present Ken Doorson's paintings from our own stock. Life-size portraits of black people that take your breath away.
