In 'The Mounted Life' Danielle van Ark shows photos of stuffed animals in the depots of Natural History Museums.
Danielle van Ark THE MOUNTED LIFEIn the depots of 33 Natural History Museums in Europe and America I have photographed the stuffed animals that are stored in the storage areas of the museum. Without any touch and resistance I observed and photographed the stuffed animals as I found them and put them away by the museum staff. This often unintentionally produces touching scenes. Photographed with a large format analog camera, existing light and a slow shutter speed, the animals in this photographic series seem to come back to life.A recurring theme in my work is the passing of time: mortality as the inescapable shadow of status, fame and glamour, but also as the catalyst of existing relationships.
