SBK Galerie 1 proudly presents 'the Urban Millennium Project' by photographer Bas Losekoot. For the first time, an overview of this ambitious photo project can be seen.
FINISSAGE AND ARTIST TALK You are cordially invited on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 3:00 PM for the finissage and artist talk of the exhibition 'the Urban Millennium Project' by photographer Bas Losekoot in SBK Galerie 1 KNSM Amsterdam. In the artist talk, Losekoot explains how he came to this ambitious photo project. That day is the last chance to view this unique photo exhibition. From 2011, Losekoot visited the most populous cities on Earth, from Sao Paulo to Mumbai, to document the impact of urbanization and the effect of population density on people's mobility. Losekoot is interested in how we relate to the city, to each other, and especially to ourselves. CROWDFUNDING FOR A BOOK During the opening, the first edition was auctioned by auctioneer Paulina Cramer, affiliated with Christie's Amsterdam. The proceeds from the auction and the sale of the special edition will fully benefit a photo book of this project. Bas Losekoot (1979), who graduated in 2001 from the study 'Photographic Design' at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and recently obtained a Master's Degree in 'Photography and Urban Cultures' at Goldsmiths, University of London, photographs, with sociological insight, daily mini-meetings at busy bottlenecks in the city. Through his dramaturgical approach to the street, small gestures are elevated to theatrical events. Working with cinematographic techniques, he seems to be reinventing street photography. Parts of his project have already been shown at BOZAR in Brussels, PhotoIstanbul , New York Photo Festival and Villa Perochon in France. From 21 May, a unique selection from the entire Urban Millennium Project can be seen at SBK for the first time.
