Pulitzer Prize and World Press Photo winner Massoud Hossaini brings the first exhibition of the Afghanistan Photographers Association (APA) to the Netherlands. Together with eleven photographers, he redefines Afghanistan in a unique portrait.
After the fall of the regime in Afghanistan, the early emergence of a free press led to a minor photographic revolution. With the withdrawal of foreign troops and international media, Afghanistan and its artists, photographers and journalists are back on their own. United in this exhibition, eleven photographers paint a portrait of a country like we've never seen it before. Afghanistan, Life Beyond the Front Pages tells the stories behind the front pages and off screen of the war scenes. It offers an exceptionally photogenic picture of the struggles and pride of an unstable Afghanistan and shows the unexpected beauty of resilience, perseverance and camaraderie in wartime. The festive opening will take place on Sunday 24 November at 15:00 hrsunder the musical accompaniment of Thierry Castel (winner North Sea Jazz Dutch Jazz Competition).
