Ndikhumbule over Staying Afloat:

"Staying afloat refers to the notion of survival, culturally, religiously, socially and politically. On this context, surface on this works is of a major importance as it determine your survival. An Image, “Sound Waves” a man sailing on a violin, it is a reference to a person kept going by sound or music, it is either music serve a meditative device, or it is just a believe on the high power of the sound. 80% of all paintings I have created in my career have been inspire by sound, therefor, sound serve as proper ground of the survival of my creative career.
Refuges crossing the Mediterranean Sea with inflated boats, their survival is depended upon their will to stay alive, and most importantly the strengths of the boat, if the boat can remain floating on the surface, there is a chance that, they will reach their destination.
“the players” some figures running on a vinyl. The ability to keep the pace with the speed of the record can be regarded as staying afloat, for if you were to loose concentration you would fall. It is about understanding or knowing or mastering your craft, not only in art and music, but in other fields, as well. Keeping the rhythm will motivate your pace, so you don’t fall.
This body of work has been motivated by the need to stay on top with whatever I do."
