‘Marwan is bezig met vorm, kleur en compositie, maar geeft daarnaast inhoudelijk ingredi\u00ebnten om op door te filosoferen, om als toeschouwer een oordeel te vellen over het uitzicht dat hij de kijker biedt. Daarnaast is Bassiouni sinds acht jaar zelf een praktiserende Moslim en heeft zo dus niet alleen letterlijk van binnenuit de Moskee foto\u2019s gemaakt van de wereld die zich daarbuiten toont, hij heeft ook figuurlijk van binnenuit onderzoek gedaan naar de gemeenschap waar hij onderdeel van is en diens omgeving.’<\/p>\n
Hij zet daarmee een fijnzinnige vormentaal in om een oprechte uitspraak te doen over onze hedendaagse wereld en dat maakt dat Alex de Vries ( Eigenaar Stern\/Den Hartog & de Vries, bureau voor communicatie in kunst en cultuur) en Lieneke Hulshoff (hoofdredacteur Mr Motley) hem hebben verkozen tot de overtuigende winnaar van\u00a0 SBK SPROUTS 2018.<\/p>\n
‘Between January 2018 and February 2019, I travelled across the Netherlands photographing the Dutch landscape from inside Dutch mosques. I wanted to create an image that would suggest a different way of looking at Islam in the West. If I place my tripod on the prayer rug and open the blinds of the window, and if I focus just as much on the outside as I would on the inside, could the resulting photograph narrow the distance between us?<\/p>\n
